Monitoring Spirit Strength

Highland Malt Distilling Ltd recently installed a Canongate four channel DensiCheck System on one of its spirit stills at the Tamdhu Distillery on Speyside. The system will monitor spirit strength at the spirit safe.

Ultimately, the DensiCheck System can be used to control the different cut points at the spirit safe. It monitors spirit in the range around 70% to 60% ABV - the critical area where spirit is collected - and in the range 1 to 0% ABV when a decision needs to be taken to turn the still off because the yield is uneconomical.

Due to its non-invasive nature, the DensiCheck System is ideally suited to this application. DensiCheck offers reliability because it is entirely non-invasive and there is no possibility of the sensor being fouled up. Also DensiCheck can monitor up to four process streams and has CENELEC approval for us in hazardous areas.
