The customer required an automatic control system to control the intake of malt from lorry into one of 7 malt bins. The Dressing, Destoning and overall Milling processes are also under automatic control allowing for repeatability and more reliable milling operations. Control of the Dust extraction is also included.

The system is designed using a Rockwell CompactLogix PLC with local I/o together with remote Flex I/O. A single node SCADA system is located in the Mash Tun control area. The SCADA is Rockwell's FactoryTalk View. A simple to use push-button graphical interface is used to allow operators to stop and start any of the operations.
